The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered releases on September 29 as a free upgrade for everyone who already owns the game. That’s pretty exciting, even if you’re like me and have played it through several times already: any excuse to reacquaint with the Butcher of Blaviken is welcome in my household, and the Songs of the Past expansion, scheduled for next year, feels like a dream.
Still, rather than replay The Witcher 3 over and over again I could opt to read the Andrzej Sapkowski books the games are based on. I could do that, but leaving aside the fact that reading doesn’t have graphics or visceral interactive combat, there sure are a heck of a lot of Witcher books.
Thankfully a boxset exists gathering 8 of them. Amazon is currently selling this big ol’ box for only AU$68, which is 50 percent cheaper than the usual AU$140. That RRP isn’t too much to ask for eight sizeable fantasy novels and short story collections, so carving half that price off feels very generous indeed.
Significant caveat: since this boxset was released in 2024, it’s missing the most recent instalment, Crossroads of Ravens, which released in September 2025. That’s not something you should worry too much about: as my colleagues note in their rundown of The Witcher novels, Crossroads of Ravens is a standalone prequel, so you’ll probably want to read the rest of them first anyway.
Once you do get the boxset (and they’ve very highly regarded in these parts) you’ll probably want to know which order to read them in. This is not as straightforward a question as you would think: thankfully we have a resource for that.
To highlight what a good deal this is: the Kindle edition, an incorporeal digital license that you can’t display on IRL bookshelves, is currently going for AU$94.99. Don’t do that.
