On your journey through Big Walk, one of the puzzles that is likely to stump you–and all but guaranteed to stump you if you find it early–is the 4166, 1899 puzzle. You’ll spot a box with a puzzle MacGuffin inside of it, and nothing else but a plank with these numbers on it. So what the heck do you do next? Here’s how to solve this one.
How to do the 4166, 1899 puzzle in Big Walk
First, what you need to know is that these are coordinates, if you didn’t already surmise that. But coordinates don’t help much without a way to read them. For that, I strongly suggest you first complete the red tower. Some exploration spoilers follow from here.
4166, 1899: coordinates to the puzzle answer in Big Walk
When you complete the red tower by placing five MacGuffins in its console, you’ll unlock a key that you shape and then use to open a room next to the session spawn point, which I took to calling a gym in my time with Big Walk.
Inside this newly unlocked room is a massive 3D map on the floor. It’s a map of the entire island, complete with locations of every last MacGuffin–and thus puzzle–on the island, as well as other landmarks. While this map is very helpful, it doesn’t have coordinates. However, the paper map that spawns on the table inside this room does.
It’s this paper map that’s going to help you find what you need. Open the map and you’ll see latitude and longitude plotted along its edges. Recall that you’re looking for 4166, 1899. You’ll see the rough location of that spot, but if you’re having trouble, we’ve pinpointed it for you in the image below.
Head to the red circle we’ve placed on the map (and forgive the image cropping we’ve done to avoid spoilers).
Then, all you need to do is head there. But remember that at least one person in your group needs to stay with the locked MacGuffin, where you first came upon the coordinates. On your way, you’ll probably get distracted by a dozen other things to see and do, but if you stay focused on the task at hand, you’ll eventually find yourself in the south-central portion of the map, between where the railway curves and the ski lift disappears into a tunnel.
You’re looking for a button on the side of the rocks here. Be careful, though; as you can see below, it’s camouflaged. While one person holds that button, another person back at the locked MacGuffin will see the box open and can then grab it, completing the puzzle. That’s it!
