First 5-day Tokyo Game Show in 30 years cuts back to 4 in face of Typhoon Dujuan

As reported by Kotaku, the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show have announced that its final day has been canceled and tickets for Monday, September 21 will be refunded. This was supposed to be the first five-day event in TGS’ 30-year run—while I am not a superstitious man, God or karma or something may be trying to tell us that it’s just supposed to be a four-day deal.
“Due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25, strong winds and rain are expected to intensify in the afternoon and beyond, and disruptions to transportation are also a concern,” event organizers wrote on Twitter. “Therefore, prioritizing the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, and related parties, as well as ensuring safe return home, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day.”

The TGS showfloor will remain open for today, September 20, with potential modifications. There is no word on how the event will address publishers and devs who rented out space for the final day.
As reported by the Japan Times, Dujuan is the 25th named typhoon of 2026, and is predicted to dump the heaviest rainfall (almost 16 inches) on the Kanto region containing Tokyo. Nippon Airways has canceled many flights in the region, while the East Japan Railway is fully and partially suspending service on some lines.
