Metro 2039 Kicks Off A Busy February Full Of Video Game Launches

During today’s State of Play, 4A Games revealed new PS5 Pro footage of Metro 2039 and finally confirmed the game’s release date.
Narrowing down from a previously known February 2027 release window, it’s now confirmed that the game will be out on February 4 of next year. That means it’s currently the first high-profile AAA game launch in a month that will be full of them. In the weeks after Metro 2039’s launch, we can expect the likes of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War Laufey, Persona 4 Revival, and Fable to all come out.

The new gameplay footage looked great, which makes me thankful that Metro 2039 is arriving before all those other titles. The three-minute State of Play trailer begins with The Stranger slowly exploring the remnants of a dentist’s office. He discovers that some Novoreich forces are there in the apartments above, and a shootout ensues. The YouTube video description for the trailer reveals that this footage is meant to highlight the “environmental detail, kinetic combat, and the technological advances that have been made” for this new Metro game.
The video description also reveals why the footage looks so good: It was captured on PS5 Pro, on which Metro 2039 has a 60fps performance mode that supports ray tracing. That performance mode will even be available on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X models, with 4A Games touting that Metro 2039 is “the first game in the series to be built from the ground up for ray tracing.”
Metro 2039 will be released across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 4, 2027.
