Gamescom Opening Night Live showcased some new footage of the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override: new powers, a new robot master, maybe a hint that Proto Man will play a role in the game. That’s all well and good. But the stinger at the end felt more like a jump-scare than a bonus.

Yes, you’ll be able to get a skin for Pragmata that turns Hugh and Diana into Rock/Megaman and Roll, respectively. Perhaps it’s a cute little nod to the speculation that ran rampant pre-release that Pragmata was a stealthy Mega Man reboot. But I think most of us can agree that it looks … off–in a deeply unsettling way.
As bad as way too tall Fortnite Sonic the Hedgehog looked, Mega Man here might be even worse in terms of just feeling repulsively off. It’s an even more bizarre contrast next to the photorealistic DianaRoll. I’d wonder, “What the hell is Capcom thinking?” but given the abundant social media reaction to this, this little cross-promotion stunt looks to have succeeded.
