This $599 32-inch 4K OLED from Asus is the gaming monitor bargain I’d buy this Prime Day

This is the OLED gaming monitor I’d buy this Amazon Prime Day. Actually, a 32-inch 4K QD-OLED is so appealing for $599, it’s tempting to bankrupt myself and buy two for the ultimate dual-monitor OLED setup.

There are an awful lot of really great monitors deals this Prime Day, maybe more than in any other PC component category. But what would I buy, myself? I just spotted this awesome 32-inch 4K Asus for just $599 on Newegg, a price that’s very hard to resist.
32-inch 4K is one of my favourite monitor form factors. Another top option is 34-inch ultrawide, but that monitor class is remaining stubbornly expensive with OLED panel tech, with the cheapest examples coming in well over $600.
So, the ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCDS for a whisker under $600 looks like something of a steal. If you’re wondering how it can be this cheap, well, the most obvious compromise is refresh. It’ll only do 165 Hz.

But then this is a 4K panel and you’re hardly going to be driving it at 360 Hz in the latest games. The GPU that can achieve that simply doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, if you’re seriously into esports, then a 32-inch 4K panel won’t be on your radar, anyway.
So, I would argue the refresh isn’t an issue. Instead, what you’re not getting at this price point is the latest Samsung QD-OLED panel tech. I reviewed the new MSI MPG 322UR X24 in May and was seriously impressed by it’s upgraded QD-OLED panel.

It’s not only brighter. It also suffers less from QD-OLEDs characteristic purple tint in bright ambient light. The only problem is that the MSI MPG 322UR X24 goes for $1,099, or nearly twice the price. It’s very nice. But it’s not twice as nice as the ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCDS.
Heck, this Asus even has a USB-C port with power delivery, albeit just 15 W. Given my work space is in a cellar and ambient light isn’t an issue, I’m darn tempted to get two of these Asus panels and have pretty much the ultimate dual-panel OLED setup for about the same price as many single 32-inch 4K OLEDs. Pretty hard to argue against that, isn’t it?
