CD Projekt Red has shared new footage and disclosed more details about The Witcher 3’s upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, and that includes confirmation that you can indeed pet the dog. Finally.
This is very welcome news, as The Witcher 3 did not originally allow players to do this (except for in one mission where Geralt saves a dog from wolves). Geralt has been able to give horses nice pats, but never dogs–until now.

Coming in 2027, Songs of the Past is The Witcher 3’s third expansion, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and it’s coming some 12 years after the game originally released in 2015.
In Songs of the Past, players suit up once again as Geralt as they take on “never-before-seen foes” and fight a “long-dormant evil” in a new region, Letten. You can check out the latest trailer from Gamescom below.
The expansion includes enhancements to visuals, performances, and gameplay from the upcoming Witcher 3 remaster, which releases on September 29. Presumably, the ability to pet the dog is not exclusive to Songs of the Past and is part of the wider enhancements coming with the remaster.
