All weapon and sidearm locations
There are a total of 16 sidearms and melee weapons in Mortal Shell 2. Here’s how they’re scattered all over Fallgrim:
Two gear pieces can be found during the prologue.
Six are in the region of Fainweald.
The remaining eight are in the region of Mammon.
Note: All weapons and sidearms can be upgraded further via the Tarforge in Marrow Keep. Just be sure you have enough coins and smithing-stone-type materials to spare.
Weapon #1: The Iconoclast and Sidearm #1: Naylshotte
Both of these items are obtained early in the prologue, which is also when you unlock the Harros shell:
The Iconoclast – This is your typical one-handed sword.
Naylshotte – A shotgun-like contraption that fires a spread of projectiles.
Untarnished Seal – In addition to the above, you also receive the Untarnished Seal, which allows you to block attacks.
Unlocking Harros also nets you The Iconoclast and Naylshotte.
Weapons and sidearms in Fainweald
The map below shows the Mortal Shell 2 weapons and sidearms in the region of Fainweald. We’re going to start off with those that are closest to Widow’s Overlook, the initial fast-travel beacon.
There are six armaments in Fainweald.
Sidearm #2: Forgotten Crossbow
The Forgotten Crossbow comes from the Flooded Village dungeon. To get there, follow the sloping path from Widow’s Overlook and cross the rope bridges that take you to the lower crags. There, you’ll spot some Spear Maidens and Toxic Cultists. However, there’s also something else that looks odd–a stone arch covered by wooden boards.
Hit the wooden boards to destroy them, then pass through the archway. This reveals the tower entrance. Go down the steps and press the switch on the wall to lift the cage, then ride the elevator going to the bottom.
The elevator will collapse, so you need to fight your way out. Beware of Toxic Stalkers that cause poison, as well as other hostiles in the area. Your goal is to make your way to the house at the back of the pools so you can grab the Damp Key. Once you have it, return to the main structure and open the door to obtain the Forgotten Crossbow. This spawns an orb that lets you teleport back to the entrance.
Gain access to the Flooded Village (left) to obtain the Forgotten Crossbow (right).
Weapon #2: Veteran’s Battle Axe
The Veteran’s Battle Axe is inside a dungeon called the King’s Crypt. Just follow the dirt path from where you unlock the Proxima shell to stumble upon a cavern. Take out the enemies and claim your prize from the sarcophagus at the end.
The Veteran’s Battle Axe can be looted from the King’s Crypt.
Weapon #3: Axe & Dagger
The Axe & Dagger in Mortal Shell 2 can be yours once you acquire the Chapel Key, which is found in a plateau near the Mushroom Village beacon. With the key in your inventory, return to the beacon and make a left to come across a Grisha Hunter encampment.
Use the key to unlock the tower and make your way inside. You need to solve a couple of straightforward puzzles here:
Room 1: Face the king pillar and walk backward to make the fake wall disappear.
Room 2: Strike the stone blocks so that they move on top of the two pressure plates.
Room 3: Defeat the Armored Knight foe and grab your loot.
The Axe & Dagger can be yours once you have the Chapel Key.
Sidearm #3: Troubadour’s Lute
Speaking of loot–or “lute,” rather–you can obtain the Troubadour’s Lute from the One-Legged Wolf tavern in the eastern part of Fainweald. Just collect and siphon enough Ova until you’re able to cleanse corruption that bars your path, then go north from the Mushroom Village Entrance beacon.
The tavern is nearby, and the lute itself is on the stage. It’s one of the best items that you can get early in the game since it causes confusion among your enemies. You could cause several hostiles to fight each other as you watch with glee. Oh, and don’t forget to unlock the Gragu shell while you’re in the tavern, too.
Play some music with the Troubadour’s Lute.
Sidearm #4: Salvaged Trebuchaxe
The Salvaged Trebuchaxe is your reward for clearing the Ravaged Hideout, a dungeon at the base of the hilly area outside the Citadel of Penance. To be clear, you need to defeat the Bloodcursed Lithopod boss that emerges. The creature itself drops an item that opens the Citadel’s gates permanently and, once it’s gone, you’ll be able to enter its lair.
As the name implies, this sidearm fires axes.
Weapon #4: Great Martyr’s Blade
Since we’ve already talked about the Citadel of Penance, one of the dungeons just outside its eastern walls–the Martyr’s Prison–actually has another nifty reward waiting for you. Enter it and interact with the mysterious coin pouch to get teleported to the prison area. Next, defeat the foes in the tight corridors until you can get the gear piece at the end.
The Great Martyr’s Blade complements Eredrim’s aura farming.
Weapons and sidearms in Mammon
There are even more Mortal Shell 2 weapons and sidearms located in the region of Mammon. While you can freely explore the zone, we’ve organized our list as though you’re traversing the region from the initial area going to the western and central sectors, followed by the eastern and southern portions.
There are eight armaments in the Ruins of Mammon.
Weapon #5: Obsidian Hammer
The Obsidian Hammer is inside the aptly named Obsidianite Mines dungeon. From the Outskirts of Mammon beacon, keep going west until you stumble upon a quarry with a large pool of water. Drop down the pool and enter the dungeon.
Once you’re inside the mines, you need to fall down the chasm, taking care to land on the ledges below you. At the very end, there’s a Prophet of Profane Infinites miniboss that drops this melee weapon.
Smash the miniboss to receive this big sledgehammer.
Sidearm #5: Ballistazooka
Trying to get the Ballistazooka sidearm in Mortal Shell 2 can be a little tricky. It’s in the Sentry’s Grave dungeon, which is actually inside the Lonesome Spire. The interior is filled with numerous Ballista Head enemies, which will skewer you with projectiles if you’re not careful.
When you reach the final chamber, you’ll face off against the Subjugated Guardian miniboss, a beefed up Ballista Head whose projectiles cause explosions. Ideally, you should run up to it to prevent it from shooting–sort of like moving in engagement range in tabletop games. This would limit it to its head-slam attacks that are easy enough to block and parry.
Survive ballistae shots and explosions to claim this reward.
Sidearm #6: Triarch Repeater
If you want the Mortal Shell 2 Triarch Repeater sidearm, you have to delve deeper into the Blackwell Cavern dungeon. Here’s a quick summary of what you can expect:
Make your way to the Castigator’s Keep beacon so you can tag a nearby rest area.
From the beacon, go down the steps and go east-southeast by following the cliffside path.
Take the wooden lift down and circle around the grassy field. You should then see the mouth of a cave.
As the dungeon’s name implies, it’s almost pitch black inside. Visibility is limited to just a few feet from your character, so be mindful of navigating the tunnels.
Seek the Triarch Repeater in the gloomy dark.
Sidearm #7: Cursed Child
The Cursed Child in Mortal Shell 2 comes from the Revered Beacon in the Sester’s Abbey. It also happens to be one of the most novel locations in the game due to a certain structure:
From the Sester’s Gate beacon, go to the courtyard with the Rollerball enemy. Take a look below the edge of the walkway to spot a ledge.
Drop down and shoot the bell to reveal a path. Then, continue to the lower section of the abbey to enter the dungeon.
The Revered Beacon has none other than an Eye of Sauron-esque structure in the distance. When the spotlight sees you, the searing heat will gradually deplete your health.
Try to stand behind walls until the coast is clear. Oh, and you can also goad enemies into attacking you because the spotlight burns them, too.
At the very top, you need to destroy the object to obtain the Cursed Child.
Avoid the glare of the “Eye of Sauron” (left) to retrieve the Cursed Child (right).
Weapon #6: Axatana
Getting the Axatana follows an semi-similar process. Go ahead and drop down the ledge past the Rollerball enemy. Now, instead of heading to the abbey interior, make a left and use the jump gate to cross the ravine. You’ll then end up in the Forgotten Tower.
Make your way to the opposite side of the tower by using another jump gate and press the plate next to the metal door. Engage the Dagger Sester enemy and, once you’ve eliminated your foe, pick up the weapon from the niche.
The Axatana is in the lower section of the Forgotten Tower.
Weapon #7: Black Needle
The Black Needle is also in the Sester’s Abbey area. Specifically, it’s a reward from the Sester’s Gate beacon that you need to cleanse. Proceed through the dungeon normally and shoot the bells to cause ledges to materialize.
When you reach the arena-like area, you’ll trigger the Twin Sesters boss encounter. It involves fending off a pair of Sesters–i.e. one wielding a rapier and another wielding a bow. After eliminating the two targets, you have to deal with the Stray Sester, who drops her Black Needle spear once she’s defeated.
Defeat several Sester minibosses to loot the Black Needle.
Weapon #8: Clockwork Scythe and Sidearm #8: Caged Hystrix
There are two more weapons in Mortal Shell 2, and they’re both found in the same general area:
Proceed south-southeast of Castigator Keep and make sure you tag the Silent Steps beacon.
From there, use the jump gate and face a boss named Sariel.
When Sariel escapes because he’s lost a lot of HP, continue up the steps and venture into the Chamber of Becoming.
Take on Sariel once more to unlock him as a shell. He also drops the Clockwork Scythe for your usage.
After watching Sariel’s memory, take the Caged Hystrix near the exit.
Put an end to Sariel to obtain both the Clockwork Scythe (left) and Caged Hystrix (right).
That does it for our guide on where to fight all sidearms and weapons in Mortal Shell 2. We hope that these swords, axes, guns, and even a musical instrument all help you face the challenges in Fallgrim. Just remember to unlock all shells so you can utilize new abilities and powers effectively. Lastly, if you want to improve your gear further, you can head over to our Tarforge upgrades guide.
